Many colleges/universities that once hesitated to use distance learning due to concerns about lower student success rates are now planning to progress with more online courses. More and more colleges are evaluating which training courses are best suited for distance learning and providing their faculty with more professionals to increase the success rate of online courses. The current rapid and compulsory use of online teaching and learning is likely to lead to lasting change by producing data that can help accelerate and improve the online learning platform and pedagogy. We expect that with the increasing use of distance education, the university campus will become a center of experiential and collaborative learning and student support. The application of distance learning can reduce the need for lecture space on campuses, and this is in line with the need to develop other types of space.

Traditional campus areas can shift from classroom lectures to more practical learning lab spaces. In actual fact, you would see a shift towards integrated lecture and laboratory activities in the same classroom session – strategies that help students retain newly learned knowledge and skills. This change requires combining the lecture space in the lab into a flexible open space that can be prepared for lectures using mobile tables and chairs. Using the same furniture, the same space can be quickly configured and equipped for laboratory or project activities. Colleges also include a higher level of academic support and student services, and campuses are well placed to expand the areas of guidance, learning, and students, and to offer these services online and in person.
